Common questions about sun protection accessories

Do UV arm sleeves really work?

Yes. UV arm sleeves are tubes of certified UPF 50+ fabric that block at least 98% of UV rays from the wrist to the upper arm, the same as a long sleeve. They are popular for driving, cycling, golf and running, because they let you wear a short sleeve top, pull the sleeves on when the sun is strong and roll them off in the shade. The stretch fabric stays up on its own.

Are UV sleeves better than sun cream?

On the arms, yes. A sleeve covers the whole forearm evenly for as long as you wear it, with none of the missed patches, sweat and rubbing that cut sun cream's protection in the first hour. Sun cream is still needed on the hands and anywhere else the sleeve does not reach. UPF is the rating for fabric, as SPF is for cream, and UPF 50+ blocks at least 98% of UV.

What shoes are good for the beach?

A beach shoe with a rubber sole and a covered, quick-drying upper is the practical choice. The sole protects the feet from rocks, shells, hot sand and weever fish, the upper keeps the sun and the scrapes off the tops of the feet, and the fit is snug enough to swim in. The equatorsun beach shoes have UPF 50+ fabric uppers and run from a child's 22 to an adult 44, so the family can match.

Are beach shoes the same as water shoes?

Mostly, yes. Beach shoes, water shoes, aqua shoes and swim shoes are different names for a light, close-fitting shoe with a grippy sole that you can wear in and out of the water. The names overlap, so look at what the shoe is made of rather than what it is called: a rubber sole, a fast-drying upper and a secure fit. UV protection for the tops of the feet is the extra equatorsun adds.

Why choose equatorsun for sun protection accessories?

Every equatorsun piece, down to the sleeves and the shoe uppers, is made from fabric tested to the AS/NZS 4399 or EN 13758 standard and certified UPF 50+, which means it blocks at least 98% of UVA and UVB rays from the skin it covers. Leading UK consultant dermatologist Dr Dev Shah recommends the equatorsun range. We're a UK family business and have specialised in sun protective clothing since 2006.
