How to choose kids' swim bottoms
Both cover the hips and thighs. Choose by how much of the legs you want covered.
Coverage Swim leggings cover the most, from the waist to the ankles, and suit snorkelling, surfing and long days on the beach. Swim shorts cover the least and are the quickest to pull on and dry. Both pair with a swim top for maximum sun protection.

Common questions about kids' swim leggings and shorts
Can kids wear leggings for swimming?
Yes, if they are swim leggings. Swim leggings are made from chlorine-resistant swim fabric that does not soak up water, go baggy or drag, and the equatorsun pair is certified UPF 50+, so it blocks at least 98% of UV rays from the legs. Ordinary gym leggings are the wrong fabric: they hold water, stretch out and often give no tested sun protection.
Are swim leggings allowed at swimming lessons?
Usually, yes. Most UK pools allow close-fitting swim leggings because they are swimwear, and many swimming teachers recommend them for children who feel the cold or want their legs covered.
Why would a child wear swim leggings?
Sun protection first: the backs of the legs burn easily on a beach and are easy to miss with cream, and leggings cover them from the waist down. They also stop stings, grazes and board rash when a child is surfing, bodyboarding or snorkelling, keep the chill off in the water, and give children who prefer to be covered a comfortable option for the pool.

Do they stay up when wet?
Yes. Both the shorts and the leggings have an elasticated waistband that holds when wet, and the fabric does not take on considerable water, so there is no weight to pull them down. Choose the size by age and, if a child is between sizes choose the larger size.
