UPF 50+

Aren't all cricket hats sun protective?

Not quite. Most hats will give you some shade, but that doesn’t mean they’re actually blocking harmful UV rays. In fact, many ordinary hats let UV through the fabric - especially lighter or loosely woven ones. That’s why dermatologists recommend wearing UPF-certified sun protective gear.

If one of the main reasons you wear a sun hat is to protect your face, it just makes sense to choose one that’s been tested and proven to do exactly that.

Is the brim wide enough to cover my face?

The sun hat comes with a wide brim to ensure your face has excellent sun protection.

Nonetheless, it is always good practice to apply suncream to your face to ensure you are protected from reflected UV rays.

Do I need to wear suncream if I am wearing this hat?

This sun hat provides excellent UPF 50+ sun protection, which significantly reduces the risk of sunburn. However, for maximum protection, it's still recommended to use suncream on exposed areas of skin that this hat doesn’t cover.

How can I wash this sun hat?

To ensure longevity, machine wash the hat in cold water with mild detergent. Avoid using bleach or fabric softeners. Hang to dry in the shade to maintain its colour.

Is this sun hat suitable for my condition?

This cricket hat is perfect for individuals requiring extra sun protection, particularly those with medical conditions that make them more susceptible to UV damage. It offers the best UPF 50+ sun protection, making it suitable for people with:

  • Skin cancers: Basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma
  • Autoimmune diseases: Lupus, scleroderma, dermatomyositis
  • Medical treatments: Chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunosuppressive therapies
  • Photosensitivity conditions: Actinic keratosis, porokeratosis, vitiligo, eczema, chronic actinic heliodermatitis
  • Genetic conditions: Erythropoietic protoporphyria, Bloom syndrome, ichthyoses

This wide-brim hat is designed to offer robust sun protection, providing peace of mind for those with specific health needs.

Please note in case of fabric allergies, this sun hat is made of 100% cotton.

What is UPF 50+ protection?

UPF 50+ is the highest rating for fabrics. It means that the fabric blocks 98% of UV rays.

All of our apparel, this sun hat included, are certified UPF 50+ under the rigorous Australian and New Zealand standard AS/NZS 4399:1966.

What sets UPF 50+ sun hats apart from regular sun hats?

Our UPF 50+ sun hats offers superior protection by blocking over 98% of harmful UV rays, unlike regular sun hats, which often provides little or no UV defence. Standard fabrics may let UV rays penetrate, leading to sunburn and long-term skin damage. In contrast, our UPF 50+ fabric provides a level of UV protection that is certified and ensures safe exposure during outdoor activities.

Why do you use Stingray fabric?

We choose Stingray because they are the original Australian sun protective clothing manufacturer, trusted since 1986. Their advanced fabrics are designed to block harmful UV rays through the fabric’s construction – without using chemical additives. By combining premium fibres, dense fabric weaves and specialist techniques, Stingray creates certified UPF 50+ protection that lasts for the lifetime of the garment, even after countless washes. This means long‑lasting, reliable sun protection you can trust.
