Description
The Stingray Nomad UV sun hat is a peaked cap with a neck flap that wraps right round and fastens with Velcro under the chin. Fasten it and your neck is covered on every side, or leave it open when you want more airflow. It is certified UPF 50+ to the Australian standard AS/NZS 4399:1996 and blocks at least 98% of UVA and UVB, and the protection is woven into the fibre and weave rather than a chemical finish, so it won't wash off or fade.
A sun cap for men and women, made for hiking, swimming and long days outdoors. The light polyester and PBT fabric is breathable and quick drying, it resists chlorine and saltwater, and the hat folds flat into a bag. One elasticated size fits heads from 58 to 65 cm, in navy or black.

That is what UPF 50+ means, tested and certified to the Australian standard AS/NZS 4399:1996. Plenty of ordinary caps give shade while letting UV through the fabric.
The protection is woven into the fibre and weave rather than a chemical finish, so there is nothing to wash out and nothing to reapply.

How does the Velcro neck flap on the Nomad hat fasten?
The flap wraps round from the back and fastens with Velcro under your chin. Fasten it for full neck cover, or leave it open when you want more airflow. When it is fastened it also keeps the cap secure on your head.
Does the Nomad hat shade my face as well as my neck?
Yes. The front peak shades your face and the flap covers your neck. There is no brim at the sides or the back, because the flap covers those.
What head sizes does the Nomad sun hat fit?
It is one elasticated size for heads from 58 to 65 cm. Measure around your head just above the ears to check.
Can I swim in the Nomad sun hat?
Yes. The fabric resists chlorine and saltwater, dries quickly and keeps its full UPF 50+ rating when wet. With the flap fastened under your chin, the cap stays secure on your head.
How do I wash the Nomad hat after swimming?
Rinse it in clean water to remove salt or chlorine. When it needs a proper wash, machine wash it cold on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent, with no bleach or fabric softener, then air dry it flat or hang it in the shade. The UV protection is woven into the fibre and weave rather than a chemical finish, so it won't wash off or fade.
Do I still need suncream?
Not on your scalp or neck while the flap is fastened. Use it on your face, which the peak shades but does not cover, and on your arms, hands and any other skin your clothes leave bare.
Is it suitable if I have had skin cancer or have a medical condition?
Yes. Certified UPF 50+ cover is often recommended after skin cancers such as basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma, and for autoimmune conditions such as lupus, scleroderma and dermatomyositis, photosensitivity conditions such as actinic keratosis and vitiligo, genetic conditions such as EPP, ichthyoses and Bloom syndrome, and during chemotherapy, radiotherapy or immunosuppressive treatment. We cannot give medical advice, so follow your dermatologist or consultant on how much cover you need.
