Between sizes? Take the larger. Children grow through a size in a season, and a little room does not affect sun coverage. The two youngest sizes are chosen by height and weight only.
How to measure
- Height.
- Chest. Around the fullest part of the chest, arms relaxed at their sides.
- Waist. Around the narrowest part of the middle, just above the belly button.
- Keep the tape level all the way round, snug but not tight.
Ages are a guide only. Always choose by height and weight where you can.
Protection that stays put in the pool
These UPF 50+ toddler swim tights are tested to the Australian standard AS/NZS 4399:1996 and block at least 98% of UVA and UVB rays. Suncream washes off easily in the water, but this protection comes from the fibres and the density of the weave, so there is nothing to reapply between swims.
Both legs, right down to the ankle
The leggings run full length to a plain hem at the ankle, with no cuffs or stirrups, so thighs, knees and shins are all inside UPF 50+ fabric.
Pool, beach and sunny afternoons
The fabric resists chlorine and saltwater, so the same pair goes in the pool and the sea. It stays comfortable wet, keeps its UPF 50+ rating in the water and is quick to dry once they are out.
Boys and girls wear the same cut, so whether you are after toddler girl swim leggings or toddler boy swim leggings, any of the colours will do.

Go by your toddler's height first, then check waist and weight; the age is a guide only. If they are between this size and the next, take the larger. Stingray kids' UV swim leggings start at Age 4, for children 102 to 112 cm tall.

What parents ask us
What should my toddler wear for swimming?
For sun protection in the water, cover what you can in UPF 50+ fabric, which keeps its rating when wet. These leggings cover the legs from the waist to the ankle. Pair them with a Stingray toddler rash shirt, with long or short sleeves and a high collar, to cover the top half.
Do the swim leggings cover the full leg?
Yes, from the waist right down to the ankle. They finish in a plain hem, with no cuffs or foot stirrups.
Do the toddler swim leggings have an elastic waist?
Yes, an elastic waistband with no drawstring. The leggings fit close and stretch with your toddler, but they are not compression tight, so they stay up without squeezing.
What height does the 2 years size fit?
91 to 102 cm tall, with a 46 to 48 cm waist and a weight of 12 to 14 kg. Height matters more than age. If your toddler is between two sizes, take the larger: the kids' version starts at Age 4.
Are the swim leggings comfortable when wet?
Yes. The fabric is soft and breathable, stays comfortable in the water and dries fast afterwards. It keeps its UPF 50+ rating while wet, and a rinse in clean water after each swim gets the chlorine or salt out.
Does my toddler still need suncream?
Yes, everywhere the leggings stop: face, ears, neck, shoulders, arms, chest, back, hands and feet. Reapply after swimming. The legs, from the waist to the ankle, need none.
Are they suitable for a toddler with eczema, sensitive skin or a condition that means avoiding the sun?
The fabric is soft, and its UV protection is woven into the fibre and weave rather than a chemical finish, which is why parents choose it for eczema and sensitive skin. UPF 50+ clothing like this is also worn by children with photosensitivity conditions such as vitiligo and actinic keratosis, autoimmune conditions such as lupus, scleroderma and dermatomyositis, genetic conditions such as EPP, ichthyoses and Bloom syndrome, and by children having chemotherapy, radiotherapy or immunosuppressive treatment. We cannot give medical advice, so check with your child's consultant how much cover they need.
