Stingray toddler UV swim shorts in UPF 50+ fabric that blocks at least 98% of UVA and UVB rays, tested to the Australian standard AS/NZS 4399:1996. They have an elastic waist, finish above the knee and have no inner brief or lining. The UV protection is woven into the fibre and weave rather than a chemical finish, so it won't wash off or fade.
The chlorine-resistant fabric is a soft Italian polyester and PBT blend. It is lightweight and breathable, resists saltwater too, dries quickly after swimming and holds its shape through regular use. Sized 2 years for boys and girls, in eight colours: plain navy, pink and ocean blue, four two-tones and a Hawaii print, all bright enough to spot in the water.

Between sizes? Take the larger. Children grow through a size in a season, and a little room does not affect sun coverage. The two youngest sizes are chosen by height and weight only.
How to measure
- Height.
- Chest. Around the fullest part of the chest, arms relaxed at their sides.
- Waist. Around the narrowest part of the middle, just above the belly button.
- Keep the tape level all the way round, snug but not tight.
Ages are a guide only. Always choose by height and weight where you can.
Sun protection in the shorts themselves
These UPF 50+ toddler swim shorts are certified to the Australian standard AS/NZS 4399:1996 and block at least 98% of UVA and UVB rays, in the water and out. Suncream washes off easily when they swim. The protection here is part of the fabric, so it keeps working however long they splash about.
Pull them on, nothing to tie
An elastic waist holds the shorts up and the legs finish above the knee. There is no inner brief or lining inside.
Bright enough to spot in the water
Bright, playful colours make a small swimmer easier to spot in the pool or the sea. The fabric resists chlorine and saltwater, keeps its UPF 50+ rating when wet and dries quickly once they are out.
Navy / Azure, Navy / Lime, Navy / Red and Pink / Topaz are navy or pink shorts with a contrast colour; Lime is green and Topaz a teal, close to turquoise. The Hawaii toddler swim shorts are pink with yellow and white flowers.

What parents ask us
Are the toddler swim shorts for boys or girls?
Both. They work as toddler boy swim shorts or toddler girl swim shorts, and the colours run from navy and ocean blue to pink, Pink / Topaz and the Hawaii print.
Do they have a built-in nappy?
No. There is no built-in nappy, inner brief or lining. If your toddler still needs a swim nappy, it goes on separately.
What height does the 2 years size fit?
Toddlers 91 to 102 cm tall, with a 46 to 48 cm waist, weighing 12 to 14 kg. Use height first; the age is a guide. If your toddler is between two sizes, take the larger: the kids' swim shorts start at Age 4.
Do the swim shorts dry quickly after swimming?
Yes. The lightweight fabric dries quickly once they are out of the water, and it keeps its UPF 50+ rating while it is wet.
Will the swim shorts keep their shape in the pool?
Yes. The fabric is chlorine resistant and holds its shape through regular use. Rinse the shorts in clean water after each swim, wash them cold on a gentle cycle and dry them in the shade. The UV protection is woven into the fibre and weave rather than a chemical finish, so washing will not remove it.
Does my toddler still need suncream?
Yes, on everything the shorts leave bare: face, ears, neck, shoulders, arms, chest, back, hands, knees, lower legs and feet. Reapply after swimming. Pair them with a Stingray toddler rash shirt, with long or short sleeves and a high collar, to cover the upper body.
Can my toddler wear them with eczema, sensitive skin or a sun-sensitive condition?
The shorts are soft, and their UV protection is woven into the fibre and weave rather than a chemical finish, which is why parents buy them for eczema and sensitive skin. Families also choose UPF 50+ clothing for children with photosensitivity conditions such as vitiligo and actinic keratosis, autoimmune conditions such as lupus, scleroderma and dermatomyositis, genetic conditions such as EPP, ichthyoses and Bloom syndrome, or during chemotherapy, radiotherapy or immunosuppressive treatment.
