How to measure
- Wrap a soft tape measure around the fullest part of your chest or bust, arms relaxed at your sides.
- Keep the tape level all the way round, including across your back.
- Hold it snug but not tight, and breathe normally.
No tape measure? Use a piece of string, mark where it meets, then measure the string against a ruler.
Only 1 in 50 UV rays gets through
That is the UPF 50+ rating, tested and certified to the Australian standard AS/NZS 4399:2020, protecting the skin from sunburn, premature ageing and long-term damage. For a sense of scale, an ordinary white cotton t-shirt has around UPF 5, the equivalent of SPF 5 suncream, and less when wet. This swim shirt lets through a tenth of that UV. The protection is woven into the fibres and the weave, not applied as a finish, so it never washes out and there is nothing to reapply.
A collar that covers your neck
Most women's swim tops finish at the collarbone and leave the neck in full sun. This women's UV rash shirt has an extended high collar, so the back and sides of the neck are covered by certified fabric that protects you all day.

What do I wear it with?
Whatever you are comfortable in. It is made to be worn on its own, so nothing underneath is needed; many women wear a bikini top or swim bra under it, with their usual bikini bottoms, swimsuit or UV swim shorts or leggings. It also layers fine over a one-piece.
Is it tight like a wetsuit?
No. A rash vest, also called a rash guard or swim shirt, is a soft, breathable 4-way stretch fabric with a close cut, more like a sports top than a wetsuit. Snug enough to stay put in the water, not compression-tight, and comfortable all day.
Can I swim in it?
Yes, it is made for the water: swimming, snorkelling, kayaking and paddleboarding. The fabric resists chlorine and saltwater, keeps its full UPF 50+ rating when wet, and dries quickly.
Do I still need suncream?
Yes, on the skin the swim shirt does not cover: face, ears, forearms, hands and legs. Reapply after swimming. A UPF 50+ sun hat covers the head and ears, and UV swim shorts or leggings cover the legs.
Will it help prevent sun ageing?
UVA, the ray responsible for most premature ageing, gets through cloud and even glass, and everyday clothing. This UV swim shirt blocks 98% of UVA and UVB across the shoulders, chest, upper arms and neck, the areas where sun damage tends to show first.
Will the UV protection wash out?
No. It comes from the fibres and the density of the weave, not a chemical coating, so there is nothing to wash out or wear off. Rinse in fresh water after swimming, wash cold with a mild detergent, and hang to dry in the shade.
Is it suitable for skin cancer patients or a medical condition?
Yes. Certified UPF 50+ cover is often recommended after skin cancers such as basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma, and for autoimmune conditions such as lupus, scleroderma and dermatomyositis, photosensitivity conditions such as actinic keratosis and vitiligo, genetic conditions such as EPP, ichthyoses and Bloom syndrome, and during chemotherapy, radiotherapy or immunosuppressive treatment. We cannot give medical advice, so follow your dermatologist or consultant on how much cover you need.
