Description
A ribbon braid sun hat in a soft seafoam green, built from rows of woven cotton ribbon stitched into a gently flared brim, rated UPF 50+ to block over 98% of UV rays.
Cotton is what makes it wearable in real heat. It breathes, sits soft against the skin, and the gaps between the ribbon rows let warm air escape rather than trapping it under a solid crown. It also folds into a bag without holding the creases, so the hat comes out of a case ready to wear. The 8cm brim shades the face, ears and neck through a full afternoon outside.
An adjustable drawstring sits on the outside of the crown, tied in a bow, so you can draw the fit in without reaching inside the hat. Fits head sizes 57.5-60cm, and there is a printed floral cotton lining inside.

An 8 cm brim in certified UPF 50+ cotton
Most sun hats are sold on the fabric rating alone, which only tells you half the story. A narrow brim in perfect fabric still leaves your ears and the back of your neck in full sun. The Hampton is cut wide enough that the rating reaches the skin it needs to.
Rows of cotton ribbon, stitched by the metre
This is not cut from a panel of cloth. Lengths of cotton ribbon are coiled and stitched row against row until the shape appears, which is why the crown flexes rather than creases. The seams between the rows are also where the heat goes.
A bow on the outside, a print on the inside
The drawstring sits on the crown rather than hidden under the sweatband, finished in a bow. You can tighten it while the hat is on your head, which sounds minor until the wind gets up on a beach.
Turn it over and there is a blue floral cotton print lining the crown.

Made at 60 cm, tightened from there
Run a tape around your head, just above the ears, and compare it to 60 cm. If you have spent years finding that women’s sun hats stop short of your size, this one is built the other way round: generous first, then drawn in with the bow until it sits where you want it.
Tape measure just above the ears. Built at 60 cm and tightened with the bow.

“My mum, Annette, was diagnosed with melanoma in 2006 and we lost her in 2009. equatorsun is what the family built afterwards. Twenty years of selling sun protection has taught us that the hat someone actually reaches for beats the technically better one sitting in a drawer, and this is a hat people reach for and it technically has the highest sun protection rating too.”
